Where I Want to Take America
I believe that we need a fundamentally new direction and we need to work towards solutions that help us meet our 21st century challenges of expanding our economy, defending our security and preserving our values.
It’s been an honor and a joy to work and fight for the values that have shaped my passion for public service for more than 30 years. I believe in the chance for every person to pursue his or her dreams, to build strong families and raise educated, healthy children who can live out their own dreams. I believe in the dignity of work that is fairly compensated. I believe in individual responsibility but also in strong communities. I believe that we are safer and stronger when we work together.
When we relish our diversity and when we remember that our great nation is free because of our values, what we have stood for and that it is the obligation of every American generation to fulfill and advance those values at home and around the world. I believe that we are blessed in America because as has been noted from nearly the beginning of the great American experience, we’ve always had a strong dynamic economy that rewarded people who worked hard and entrepreneurs and innovators, those who brought good ideas to the marketplace. And we’ve always had, even more importantly, the space for us to pursue our personal faith to support the causes we believed in, to live within that civic space between the market economy and the government where most of life takes place.

We need a new vision of economic fairness and shared prosperity: The foundation of a strong economy is the investments we make in each other – in education, health care, clean energy and new technologies. Shared prosperity, which supports the hopes, dreams and aspirations of all our people, is the true measure of our economic success.

Energy & Oil
America is ready for energy independence. Hillary is ready to lead the charge. The choices we make about energy touch nearly every aspect of our lives. Our economy, our national security, our health, and the future of our planet are all at stake as we make a choice between energy independence and dependence on foreign sources of oil. Hillary has championed policies that encourage development of alternative energy technologies and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. She has proposed an Apollo Project-like program dedicated to achieving energy independence.
Environment
In the White House, Hillary will lead the charge to stop global warming by investing in clean energy technologies, establishing a national market-based program to reduce global warming pollution, increasing our fuel efficiency, and restoring the United States' rightful place as a leader in international efforts to address the problem of climate change. Hillary introduced a plan to Congress to create a Strategic Energy Fund that would inject $50 billion into research, development, and deployment of renewable energy, energy efficiency, clean coal technology, ethanol and other homegrown biofuels, and more.
We can create the fund without raising taxes by giving oil companies a choice: invest in renewable energy themselves or pay into the fund. She would also eliminate oil companies' tax breaks and make sure they pay their fair share for drilling on public lands.
Families & Children
America is ready for a president who fights for our children. Hillary has spent her lifetime as an effective advocate for parents and children. From her first job out of law school at the Children's Defense Fund to her time as First Lady of Arkansas and of the United States to her service in the Senate, helping children has been at the center of Hillary's public life. In the White House, Hillary will continue her lifelong work to create a world where every child is cherished, loved, and able to fulfill his or her potential.
Among the issues she has fought for and will make a priority as president are:
• Attracting and supporting more outstanding teachers and principals, and paying them like the professionals they are.
• Advocating for adoption and for abused and neglected children
• Providing meaningful support to households, called "kinship care" families, where grandparents and other relatives are raising children
Foreign Policy
Americans are ready for a leader who will restore America's reputation in the world, and Hillary is prepared to lead America back in the right direction.
The next president's most urgent task will be to restore America's standing in the world to promote our interests, ensure our security, and advance our values.
America is stronger when we lead the world through alliances and build our foreign policy on a strong foundation of bipartisan consensus. As president, Hillary will lead by the words of the Declaration of Independence, which pledged "a decent respect to the opinions of mankind."
Senator Clinton takes very seriously the threats we face from terrorism. She believes President Bush's singular focus on Iraq has distracted him from waging the war on terror effectively and emboldened our enemies. As president, she will be tough and smart in combating terrorism.

Government Reform
Americans are ready for a government that puts competency ahead of cronyism. Government certainly isn't the answer to all our problems. But good government -- smart government -- can be a partner for progress. It can help solve problems and accomplish things together we could never accomplish alone. This isn't about big government or small government, it's about smart government. We need a return to transparency and a system of checks and balances, to a president who respects Congress's role of oversight and accountability. We need a 21st century government to meet our 21st century challenges.

Health Care
America is ready for universal health care. Hillary has the vision and the experience to make it a reality. This is a battle Hillary has fought before -- and she has the scars to prove it. She knows better than anyone how to fight and build the political support to get the job done. Nearly 45 million Americans -- including 9 million children -- don't have health insurance. Hillary is also focused on the skyrocketing costs of health care -- over the last six years, health care premiums have almost doubled. Hillary has the experience to take on the insurance companies, work with members of Congress from both parties, and ensure that all Americans have the health care they need.

Infrastructure
Hillary has a series of emergency initiatives to ensure that the bridges, tunnels, and roads Americans rely on are safe. These initiatives are part of a broad plan for rebuilding America. Hillary's plan will not only assure our safety, but create good jobs, stimulate the economy, enhance our global competitiveness, help the environment, and improve quality of life by reducing congestion.
"Something is very, very wrong when, at the dawn of the twenty-first century, in the richest country on earth, people are actually nervous about driving over bridges for fear that they'll collapse. Or they're worried that their levees may burst, or their highways may buckle. And let's be clear: the degradation of our infrastructure isn't just a serious threat to our safety - it is also a grave threat to our economy," Hillary said. "We do not need any more warnings. We do not need any more wakeup calls. It is time to stop wringing our hands and start rolling up our sleeves. It is time for us to rebuild America."
Iraq
America is ready for a leader who will end the war in Iraq and a president who will respect our Armed Forces by properly planning for the missions we ask our troops to undertake. If the Bush administration won't, as president and commander in chief, Hillary will end this war. The war in Iraq has imposed a tremendous cost on our troops, their families, and our budget. Four years after the start of the war, the violence continues to grow, and there is no end in sight. Hillary opposes permanent bases in Iraq. She believes we may need a vastly reduced residual force to train Iraqi troops, provide logistical support, and conduct counterterrorism operations. But that is not a permanent force, and she has been clear that she does not plan a permanent occupation.
Principles & Values
For six long years, it's like America's middle class and working families have been invisible to our president. He's looked right through them. If you're a worker who can't organize for fair wages and safe working conditions, you're invisible. If you're a grandmother who has watched this administration try to privatize Social Security and dump piles of debt on your grandchildren, you're invisible. If you're a mother who can't afford child care, a kid who can't afford college, a family that can't afford to get by on the minimum wage, you're invisible. When Hillary is in the White House, no American will be invisible to the president of the United States.

Tax Reform
As a senator, Hillary introduced a plan that ties increases in the minimum wage to Congressional pay raises, so that if Congress votes a raise for itself, the minimum wage goes up as well.
Hillary has consistently supported tax relief for middle-class families. She has supported permanently ending the marriage penalty, extending the lower-income tax rates, providing a deduction for college tuition, and providing a refundable child tax credit and adoption tax credit.
In New York, Hillary championed tax incentives like wage credits for businesses and job creation in upstate New York and elsewhere. She also helped launch economic development initiatives to provide critical resources to small and micro businesses and helped launch a private sector venture called New Jobs for New York that makes venture capital available to New York's innovators.
